May brings over 15 years of specialist experience to the Senco Services team, having previously practiced in a variety of educational settings.

May’s passion for SEND started when studying for her degree in Psychology where she specialised in Learning Difficulties, Childhood Disorders and Psychopathology. Some years later as an A-level Psychology teacher, she was given the opportunity to work in a busy SEN department and saw the difference her broader skills brought to the department and the benefit they had in the classroom. She was soon promoted to the role of SENCo, gaining the National Award as a SENCo from the University of Cambridge.

Previous roles include:
  • Directing and overseeing the implementation of wrap-around care and the management of school budgets within local government.
  • Designing and delivering resettlement programs within young offenders institutions.
  • Teaching GCSE and A-level Psychology.
  • Working as a GCSE and A-level examiner.
  • Teaching SEND and holding the position of Special Educational Needs Co-coordinator within a large high school.

In 2017, having identified an opportunity to support schools with specialist support for SEN, May decided to form Senco Services.

Since then, she’s continued to broaden her skill set, completing a level 7 qualification in Psychometric Testing and Exam Access Arrangements (CPT3A) and is a recognised British Psychological Society Educational Assessor.

Fiona brings over 38 years of experience in education, having worked across the full primary age range as both a class teacher and senior leader. Her career includes ten years as Deputy Headteacher in a large, diverse primary school and more than a decade as a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo). During this time, she has supported children with a wide range of additional and complex needs and has held responsibility as Designated Safeguarding Lead, maintaining a strong focus on safeguarding and wellbeing.

Fiona combines extensive professional expertise with personal experience of neurodiversity, which informs her inclusive and child-centred approach. As a qualified dyslexia specialist, she conducts recognised standardised assessments and provides clear, practical recommendation reports for Key Stage 2 pupils. These reports help parents and schools understand a child’s strengths and areas of difficulty while identifying appropriate next steps. She does not offer diagnostic assessments, instead focusing on evidence-based recommendations that support effective provision.

She has substantial experience working collaboratively with families, schools, and external professionals, including contributing to statutory and professional assessment applications. Fiona is also an experienced exam access arrangements assessor, ensuring that reasonable adjustments are robust, compliant, and clearly evidenced. Alongside her consultancy work, she supports inclusive practice by mentoring and advising teachers and SENCos and serves as Lead Governor for Inclusion at a large, diverse primary school.
